Entering the port of Skiathos, you are welcomed by Bourtzi, an islet full of pines, which is home to the ruins of the Venetian fortress, built in the 13th century. Across the way, the island’s Hora spreads along, full of houses with red rooftops and the very well-known Papadiamanti Street, where the famous writer was located.
Alexandros Papadiamantis was born in Skiathos and was one of the most significant and influential Greek writers. If you want to meet him, his house –museum is located at Hora.
You can also discover Kastro, which is located in the northern part of the island. The Castle was built in the 14th century to protect the Skiathians from pirates. Today, its mystical allure is still captivating.
In Skiathos, you can also discover some secret gems, like the monastery of Evaggelistria and the sea caves, which you can discover by renting a boat.
